App download links that don’t get switched off
One link and one QR code: iPhones open your App Store page, Android phones open Google Play, and everyone else lands on your website. It lives on your own domain, you can change where it goes any time, and we never switch it off.
Two link services changed under app teams
Firebase Dynamic Links shut down on 25 August 2025. Google’s own FAQ says every page.link address now returns a 404, so store links on posters, packaging and websites stopped working.
AppsFlyer’s free Zero plan changed on 15 September 2026. AppsFlyer’s update notice says branded domains are revoked, which may leave links inactive wherever they were used, and advanced deep linking moved to paid plans.
Both show the same risk: a link on someone else’s domain lasts only as long as their plan or product does.
What a download link needs, and what it doesn’t
If the link only has to get people to the right store, from a poster, a box, an email signature or a QR code, you don’t need an SDK. The choice is made from the phone’s browser, in the redirect itself.
If you need people to land on a specific screen after they install, or to see which campaign brought each install, you need a mobile measurement partner such as Branch, AppsFlyer, Adjust or Airbridge. MicroURL doesn’t do that part, and you can use both: our link on the poster, their tracking inside the app.
How to replace a broken store link
List where the old links live: your website, emails, social bios, posters, packaging and any printed QR codes.
Make one MicroURL link with two routing rules: iPhones and iPads to your App Store page, Android to Google Play. Everyone else goes to your website.
Put it on your own domain, like get.yourapp.com, so the link belongs to you and not to a link service.
Swap the new link in wherever you can edit, and print the new QR code on your next run. From then on you change where it goes, not the print.
Common questions
Do Firebase Dynamic Links still work?
No. Google shut the service down on 25 August 2025, and its FAQ says every link now returns a 404 page. There is no automatic migration, so each link has to be replaced where it was used.
What changed in AppsFlyer’s free Zero plan?
Since 15 September 2026, Zero focuses on basic short links and click counts. AppsFlyer says branded domains are revoked, which may leave links inactive wherever they were used, and advanced deep linking moved to paid plans.
Do I need an SDK for an app download link?
Not to send people to the right store. A link that opens the App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android works from the redirect alone. An SDK is only needed to open a specific screen after install or to attribute installs to campaigns.
Does MicroURL open a specific screen inside my app after install?
No. MicroURL sends people to the right store or page and counts the taps. For screen-level links after install and install attribution, use a measurement partner such as Branch, AppsFlyer, Adjust or Airbridge.
Can MicroURL switch my link off?
We never switch a link or QR code off because an account went over a plan limit, and the free plan has no time limit. With your own domain, you can also move the links elsewhere later without reprinting.

Store routing, your own domain, a QR code in your colors with your app icon, and taps by iPhone, Android and country are all on the free plan. More on the page for app teams.
