How to track how many people scan your QR code
Only a QR code that points at a short link can be counted: the link counts each scan, then forwards the person to your page. Give each flyer, table card or sign its own code and you’ll see which ones people actually scan.
How to set it up
Use a code that points at a short link
A plain QR code opens your page directly, so nothing in between can count it. A dynamic code opens a short link first, which counts the scan and forwards the person in a fraction of a second.
Give each place its own code
One code for the table cards, another for the window, another for the takeout menu. They can all open the same page; separate codes tell you which one people actually scan.
Read the numbers
Scans by day and hour, how many different people, which country, iPhone or Android, and the busiest days and times. Bots are left out, so the count is people.
Act on it
Move the code that nobody scans, reprint the one that works, and point a code at this week’s offer without reprinting anything.
Already use Google Analytics?
Add campaign tags to the link (MicroURL has fields for them) and the scans also show up in your website analytics as their own campaign, for example “table-cards” from “qr”. Our free UTM builder makes the tags if you’d rather do it by hand.
Common questions
Can I track a QR code I already printed?
Only if it is a dynamic code and you can still sign in to the account that made it. A plain code that opens your website directly cannot be counted by a QR service; your website’s own analytics may still show the visits. For the next print run, use a code on a short link.
Is tracking QR code scans free?
On MicroURL, yes: the free plan counts 1,000 scans a month and keeps 7 days of history. The Lite plan, $9 a month, keeps 90 days.
Can I see who scanned my QR code?
No, and no honest tool can. You see how many people, roughly where, on what kind of phone and when, not names or contact details.
Do bots and scanners inflate the count?
Some link-checking bots open links automatically. MicroURL filters known bots out of the scan count by default, and you can switch them back on to see everything.
How soon do new scans show up?
Within about an hour. The charts update hourly.

Every MicroURL QR code points at a short link, on your own domain if you add one, so every scan is counted from the first day. Free for 1,000 scans a month.
